Guided Meditations for Stress Reduction - Bodhipaksha CD

The first of
these gentle exercises is a deep relaxation meditation called
a "body scan", where the attention is systematically
guided around the body in order to bring about progressive
relaxation.
The second meditation emphasizes developing a mindful attitude
towards our experience. Mindfulness is a form of awareness
which emphasizes equanimous acceptance and a sense of kindly
curiosity.
This exercise is a meditation on acceptance, where we practice
the art of welcoming, rather than resisting, uncomfortable
experiences in order to change our relationship to them
and become freer of our usual habitual reactions of avoidance,
fear, stress, and depression. |

"Mindfulness of Breathing," uses the dynamic of the breath to help us become aware of the physical sensations of the breathing as the air flows in and out of the body. With this practice the mind gradually becomes quieter and the listener experiences greater contentment.
Vidyamala teaches mindfulness-based approaches to others living with physical pain and illness. She first produced her CD's, as a support for the students attending her pain-management classes.
Pain and illness are innately unpleasant experiences and inevitably many of us develop unhelpful habits in reaction such as aversion, avoidance and tension. This just adds to the overall experience of suffering. "Mindfulness can help us break this cycle of reactivity and regain a sense of initiative, confidence and control," says Vidyamala. |
